After originally buying a good number of DRMed ebooks through Peanutpress and now eReader, I switched to Mobipocket for newer purchases because they supported such a variety of platforms - most notably Symbian. Well, I have another example for my personal archives as to why the state of DRM today is abysmal. Mobipocket.com has been down for over two days (since I started checking) and I need to register a new device with which I want to read my eBooks. Being locked in with my latest round of four books requires that I have patience and wait until they figure out what is going on...so I can access the products I already purchased. This is very similar to one of the reasons why I quit buying DRMed music from iTunes. Unfortunately, the idea of buying and scanning my books, analogous to buying CDs and ripping them, is not nearly as likely to happen. So sad...
A note for the archives: mobipocket is down... and has been for a long while
